Did you enable the i386 repository on amd64? acroead and other
32-bit packages have been repacked to take advantage of the
Multi-Arch mechanism now.
To enable Multi-Arch:
$ dpkg --add-architecture i386
$ apt-get update
$ apt-get install acroread
