I'm talking about the Ubuntu package.

Then the problem isn't optimization. I did a try under virtualbox and
handbrake works fine.

Are you sure that handbrake don't load libraries from /usr/lmocal Or
another non standard places ?

You see nothing interesting in handbrake log files ~/.config/dhb ?

Do you have the same crash with the cli package ?

Otherwise the best is to build a package yourself and run the unstriped
binary from src under gdb.
