I don't use xine but do use kaffeine. I read elsewhere (probably the
Debian ML) about the fix.
In ~/.xine/config find the stanza (should be close to the top);
# Audiodriver to use (default: auto)
# { auto pulseaudio alsa oss jack file none }, default: 0
#audio.driver:auto
Uncomment the last line, and change auto to whatever your sound system
is. In my case, alsa. Save and then try kaffeine & xine. If all else
fails, try each of the options in turn.
