What relevance do the mythtv log files have in this situation? This is
the install scripts (either mythtv-database.install or
mythtv-database.postinst) being unable to connect to the database
server specified in the debconf dialog. If I'm incorrect in my reading
of this, then please, give me some pointers on where to find the real
problem.

I looked anyway, but don't see anything in the log files that
helps. Is there a verbosity setting I can use that would shed light?
Where? Backend? Frontend?

Here again is the output from aptitude when I try to install mythtv-database:

E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
A package failed to install. Trying to recover:
Setting up mythtv-database (0.24.2-0.0squeeze1) ...
Failed to connect to database: Access denied for user 'root'@'mythbe01.furie.org.uk' (using password: YES) at -e line 5, <> line 1.

dpkg: error processing mythtv-database (--configure):

Press return to continue.

This is while trying to install mythtv-database 0.24.2-0.0squeeze1 on
Debian Squeeze amd64. The machine I'm trying to install to is the
mythbe01 referenced in the above error.

As I said before, I am able to connect to this mysql server as root
with the relevant password from itself to localhost, mythbe01, and
mythbe01.furie.org.uk. I am also able to connect to it from other
machines on the network as mythbe01 and mythbe01.furie.org.uk.

Isn't that only in 0.25? This is a 0.24.2-0.0squeeze1 installation.

I understand that 0.25 is almost ready to go into stable on your
repository, but I would really like to get this database transferred
over before that happens. I could create the database manually from
the sources, but I would like to keep the package management system
self-consistent.

Cheers,
Tom
